I recently had the awesome opportunity to travel to North Lake Tahoe. This was my first time to North Lake Tahoe and I am so excited to be able to come back and share with you guys where to eat, stay and play in North Lake Tahoe, because you need to come visit here! And make sure you scroll all the way to the bottom of this post, to click on the link for your chance to win an awesome giveaway, which includes a two-night stay at Red Wolf Lodge, ski lift tickets and MORE!
I am in love with North Lake Tahoe…or call it love at first sight. I quickly discovered that the north shore is definitely a little more my speed when it comes to weekend getaways. North Lake Tahoe was less crowded, and instead of everything being in one central spot, (recreation, food and shopping) everything is spread out over a few cute little towns that make up North Lake Tahoe. This makes exploring a must!
(Disclosure: Grand Pacific Resorts provided me with compensation and a two night stay at the Red Wolf Lakeside Lodge, in exchange for writing this blog post. All thoughts and honest opinions are my own).
It was a quick drive from Modesto to North Lake Tahoe, taking us just around two and a half hours. We checked into our hotel at the Red Wolf Lakeside Lodge in Tahoe Vista and were delighted by the cabin-like rustic feel the rooms had.
You use an actual key to get into your room! How fun is that?!
The studio room feels like home away from home. And at first I was concerned about how comfortable a murphy bed would be. But rest assured, this bed is COMFORTABLE! Probably one of the best nights sleep of my life!
A full kitchen in every room. This is perfect for families trying to save money by eating in, rather than eating every meal out. There’s a Safeway and a Raley’s grocery store just a few minutes down the road from the hotel, where you can go to stock up on groceries. Hit up the Tahoe Food Hub and let the kiddos pick out some local veggies to have with dinner too! The resort also has outdoor grills you can use.
Don’t forget to walk down to the resorts private beach and dock. It’s the perfect spot to take in the views of Lake Tahoe. A selfie is a must 🙂
There was so much exploring to do since this was my first trip to North Lake Tahoe. And snow or not, there are always a ton of things to do here!
Our first stop was to check out Tahoe Food Hub in Alpine Meadows. Tahoe Food Hub is just a short 10-minute drive from the resort.
It’s like a farmers market, but in a shop-type setting. You can find local, sustainably-grown produce, specialty products and pasture raised meats and eggs from over 35 farms within 150 miles of North Lake Tahoe. So if you are looking to make dinner at the resort, stop by Tahoe Food Hub and buy some fresh, local and affordable ingredients and support the local community at the same time.
Next, we were off to Squaw Valley in Olympic Valley to take in the views of the ski runs and hit up all the shops!
Skiing sounded like fun, but lets be honest…I am more of a shopping kind of girl. So we enjoyed spending the afternoon at The Village at Squaw Valley. They have tons of cute little shops, mostly independently owned small businesses, featuring locally made products. I love being able to shop small and support the local community, and ended up buying some yummy smelling, handmade soaps from Lather and Fizz and some dog treats for my pups from Squaw Dogs. We also had a quick lunch (which I will tell you all about in part two of this travel post) and then decided to head to Tahoe City to continue with our shopping adventures.
Tahoe City is just a few minutes to the west of the hotel, and has a ton of small shops and boutiques, as well as restaurants. There’s no fast food here (not that I was looking for any) or big box stores. So you actually feel like part of the community because of the small town feel. Kings Beach is just a few minutes to the east of the hotel, and also has plenty of small shops to peruse as well as independent restaurants. Live like a local!
The sunrises in North Lake Tahoe are breathtaking!
Look how cute this front porch is that is attached to our hotel room at Red Wolf Lakeside Lodge! I didn’t want to leave and who could blame me?! We had such an amazing weekend and had an awesome time exploring North Lake Tahoe.
And make sure you click HERE to enter the Nourish Your Noggin giveaway for your chance to win several awesome prizes! And there’s also a promo code at the bottom of the giveaway page to save you 10% on your next stay at Red Wolf Lodge!!
Stay tuned for part two of this travel post…ALL ABOUT THE FOOD!! We ate at some awesome restaurants and you definitely don’t want to miss where to find the best filet mignon in North Lake Tahoe!
XOXO,
Kelly

February 14, 2018 at 6:38 AMWe are always at south Lake Tahoe, since it’s the closest access from the bay area. But, you have convinced me to to drive further next time. It is one of our favorite destinations for both summer and winter. A gorgeous place indeed!!
