Tips to Making Your Own Homemade Popsicles

Do you need something refreshing that will help you with the upcoming heat?  Have you ever wanted to make your own popsicles??  Today I am sharing all of the information you need to make your own homemade popsicles. You will find out which fruits are best for freezing, as well as how to make these popsicles (or ice lollies if you are from Europe).

FLAVORS

It’s important that you use fresh fruit juices, cordials, yogurts or even blended vegetables for the base. If you do then you will be guaranteed to get maximum flavor. Of course, to get creamy results, try mixing some yogurt with fresh fruit or vegetables. Avocados are a great option here and they are a fantastic alternative to most sugary juices. Summer berries, apples, oranges and even mangoes are also ideal flavor options. Vegetables might not spring to mind when you are trying to make your fruit concoctions, but at the end of the day, they are a fantastic option to get those veggies into something the kiddos will be happy to eat up. And if you are going to add fresh pineapple to your popsicles, you should definitely look up ways to pull apart a pineapple if you really want to get the job done fast.

PARTY POPS

If you would much rather freeze in bulk so that you can have a nice summer surprise, then use soft fruits, some cream and some condensed milk. The more you layer, the more of a vibrant dessert you will end up with. You can freeze this as a loaf if you want. When you do, your guests will be able to choose whatever flavour they want.

BOOZE POPS

If you want to add a dash of something stronger to your popsicles, remember that an alcoholic mix that has too much alcohol in it will result in a slushy popsicle that will not hold its form. Alcohol has a much higher freezing point when compared to most yogurts and juices, so you have to make sure that you keep this in mind when adding alcohol to any frozen treat.

CHILL YOUR INGREDIENTS

Depending on your chosen ingredients, your popsicles will take around 8 hours to freeze. Leaving everything until the last minute is not an option here. You need to make sure that your ingredients are chilled and that they are also prepped in advance. Any pops that contain alcohol will need longer and the texture will be different too, so you have to make sure that you take that into account where possible.

MOULDS AND STICKS

The best thing about making your own popsicles is that moulds are available in nearly every shape. This means that you can get experimental. Of course, silicone moulds make it much easier to pop your popsicles out of and they are very easy to clean as well. It’s also possible for you to use yogurt containers or paper cups if you want. If you want to keep your sticks in the same place during the freezing process, then you may want to use some foil which will help you to keep them upright. Choosing sturdy sticks is also a good idea. If you want to get the best result out of your ice pops, then remember that the mix will expand over time so leave a gap at the top.

And there you have it!!  No need to buy push-pops or popsicles from the store anymore!

XOXO,

Kelly
