Hi y’all! Following up after a few Keto recipes I have shared here on the blog, I thought I would talk a bit about simple sugar swaps for those who have a sweet tooth (LIKE ME!!!), but are trying to find healthier options.
Whether you’re looking to lose weight or simply eat healthier, cutting back on sugar is one of the first steps to take. Too much added sugar in your diet can lead to weight gain and more serious health conditions such as diabetes. So it’s important to exercise control over your sugar intake.
However, reducing your sugar intake is easier said than done when you’ve got a sweet tooth to satisfy. Fortunately there are things you can do to make cutting your sugar intake less painful, while still allowing yourself to enjoy a treat or two. Here are some simple sugar swaps for those that have a sweet tooth!
Switch to dark chocolate
Don’t underestimate the taste of dark chocolate. As you get older and your taste buds mature, you’ll probably find that dark chocolate isn’t as bitter as you remember it as a kid. Dark chocolate makes a fantastic ingredient in different recipes, and you can break off a few squares to eat as a snack. Dark chocolate is known for having a number of benefits, so make the swap to enjoy your chocolate fix while boosting your health at the same time. Now that’s a win-win in my book!
Use an air fryer to make healthier treats
Air fryers are great for making some of your favorite foods healthier. From crispy fries to fried chicken – you can enjoy tasty food without the amount of calories you would get from traditional fry preparations. If you love to make sweet fried donuts, then you could use a low-sugar recipe that will still taste great, while the air fryer ensures that crisp texture.
Read more about it here to see the benefits of having an air fryer in your kitchen. Making healthy alternatives of your favorite sweet treats at home is the ideal way to cut your sugar intake, without having to give up the foods you love! I have been looking into buying an air fryer and sharing new recipes with you guys here on the blog soon.
Watch those drink calories
I think I have said this before in other posts, but this is (to me) an easy way to cut out unnecessary sugar and calories. Many types of drinks, particularly soda, have a high sugar content that is bad for your teeth, as well as your waistline. Drinking regular soda everyday contributes to your daily caloric intake, without the effect of making you feel full or satisfied. There are plenty of alternative drinks to try when you’re craving soda, but swapping the originals for diet versions of your favorite drinks can also be a good way to help you cut back. Drink a lot of water and use sweeteners or honey in your tea and coffee to give you that sweet taste, without all of the refined sugar.
Make your own breakfast on the go
Do you tend to grab breakfast while you’re on the move? That pastry or muffin might seem like a great idea at the time, but all of that added sugar can leave you feeling tired and sluggish by mid-morning. Instead of spending money while you’re out, why not make your own breakfast to go instead? You can control exactly which ingredients go into your Keto Snickerdoodles or cereal bar to help you create a nice healthy breakfast you can eat on the move.
While maintaining a healthy diet is important, you shouldn’t deprive yourself of treats all the time. Everything in moderation is key. So eat well and work hard the majority of the time, to make those sweet treats even sweeter when you do decide to indulge! Because you know this girl is all about creating decadent treats!!
XOXO
