Hey y’all…I’m taking a small pause from everything sweet and chocolatey, to talk about organic foods today. I always enjoy sharing informative posts with you guys, besides the recipes I normally always post. So lets talk organics!!
In this modern day, more emphasis is placed on eating as healthily as possible. The term “organic” is often heard on a frequent basis, however, not everyone is aware of what the benefits of eating organic food are. We all know that it is better for us, but why? This blog post will hopefully answer any questions your have, while also offering some tips on identifying organic food as well.
What is organic food?
First and foremost, let’s begin by determining what organic food actually is. This is food that has been produced through farming methods that use limited modern synthetic inputs. This means the use of chemical fertilizers and synthetic pesticides are kept to a bare minimum. In addition to this, organic foods are NOT processed using chemical food additives, industrial solvents or irradiation.
What are the advantages of organic food?
- Better taste – Before delving into the health benefits and alike, a lot of people agree that organic food tastes a lot better when compared with conventional produce. The true flavor of the food comes to the fore. This is why a lot of the best restaurants state on their menu if they have used organic food.
- More nutrients – One of the main reasons why individuals prefer organic food is because they contain a greater amount of nutrients. In fact, one European Union study actually concluded that organic vegetables and fruits contain up to 50-percent more antioxidants. These antioxidants have been linked to reducing the risk of heart disease and cancer.
- Environmentally friendly – More and more emphasis is being placed on the need to look after our planet. By going down the organic route, you are helping to do your part. How? Well, conventional farming causes considerable damage to the environment. This is because dangerous pesticides are used, and techniques are in place that cause the soil to erode.
- Healthier – Last but not least, organic food is a lot better for you. This is especially the case in relation to meat, poultry and fish. Inorganic animal food is extremely unhealthy as animals, such as cows and chickens, retain most of the pesticides they consume. And they certainly consume a lot! Antibiotics, growth hormones and other dangerous chemicals are the norm if organic farming practices are not in place.
If you are doing your grocery shopping, how are you supposed to tell if something is organic? Luckily, all of the information you need should be found on the label. But check those labels carefully to ensure what you are buying is truly organic.
One of the main barriers to eating organic food throughout the day, is that people worry about keeping the food fresh and having the time to prepare the organic food into lunches and snacks. Kitchen containers help keep food fresh, so simply use these and you will be able to prepare an entire weeks worth of meals at the start of every week.
All in all, it is not difficult to see why so many people are choosing to eat organic food, rather than food that has been produced by conventional methods. The benefits to be gained are vast. Try it today by even slowing buying more and more organic food products and see the change.

October 17, 2018 at 8:36 PMI do like the idea of organic foods, but I wish that it weren’t so expensive. I do know why it is more expensive having grown up on a farm and realizing how much more effort goes into growing organic. I do like having a garden (that we keep organic). Thank you for sharing this information.
