Hi! So we moved into our new house recently and I went from my 1,000 square foot 1950’s-era house to a new construction 2,700 square foot house. I had so much fun decorating and making our house a home, so how could I not share it with you?! So today I am sharing with you the before and after pictures of our home. Whether you are looking for some design inspiration, or just want a glimpse into my life, come on in and take a peek!
It was quite a decision to make to buy this house. When I bought my last house I was adamant I was never going to move again (probably because that was the fourth house I had bought AND my eighth move in 15-years). But with all the baking and blogging I do, I ran out of room in my kitchen for all my baking supplies. I had a spare closet filled with the boxes of sugar, for goodness sakes!
Bye, bye Bermuda Way house….(well not really because I still own it and just rent it out now)
So when I came across my new house, it seemed like a perfect fit for our family, and I jumped on it. And I am so happy I did. Especially now that we are all moved in. Because moving is NOT fun!
Here’s the new house while it was still under construction…kind of fun to see the construction process and how quickly they build these homes!
Okay….here are the before pictures from when we did our first walk through at the house (so you may see pieces of blue tape where the builder had things to fix)…
Entry Way
Kitchen
Living Room
Loft
And then of course the bedrooms and bathrooms…but I’ll skip the before pictures of those because I am ready to show you the after pictures!
Decorating a new construction home has it’s challenges. I wanted a space that was homey and cozy, despite the starkness of a “track home.” I decorated the house using furniture and pieces I already had, as well as several shopping trips to Hobby Lobby, TJ Maxx, Marshall’s, Bed, Bath and Beyond and a lot of online shopping 🙂
Rugs and pillows were used in almost every room to try and soften up the hardwood tile floors and make the house feel cozy. A great resource when shopping for a new home is https://wikibuy.com. Wikibuy is a shopping resource that finds you the best price on whatever it is you are looking for….from floor lamps, to side tables, to clothes and other goods and services. Handy for when you are decorating a home and trying to get the best price possible on what you are buying!!
Ok….now on to the house…all moved in 🙂
Entry way
The sign there hanging on the wall says to remove your shoes and that’s what the white crate is for. Yeah….everyone pretty much ignores that hahaha.
Kitchen
I LOVE my new kitchen. The kitchen in my old house was SO small. My walk-in, wrap around pantry is what sold me on this house though!
Hubby installed a knew kitchen faucet for me, because I love the pull down faucets, and the builder grade faucet was super cheap looking. I would love to add some subway tile as a backsplash too. It’s on the list!
Living Room
We had to buy a new couch to accommodate such a large and open family room. James hates the 10,000 pillows I have on the couch though. He throws them off every time he sits down. But whatever!
Honestly, we don’t go to the movies and are kind of homebodies, so the television is important. It is kind of our evening thing, where we sit down and relax together and watch a show. I’m still not totally satisfied with this set-up, and my friend from work just had custom built-in’s put in at his house, which would be perfect for right here. Also on the list of things to do hehehe.
Picture Wall
Includes a mix of canvas prints and framed pictures. You might remember the one canvas from THIS POST I shared awhile back.
Laundry Room
If you know me, then you know my serious love of doing laundry….and I am so not kidding. Hubby made these awesome drying racks for me because we tend to line dry a lot of our clothes. I still need to add something else on the wall though! Maybe I can talk my sister into coming over and putting shiplap on that blank wall??
Master bedroom
All the furniture in here is repurposed from my old house. Our master is not super huge, but just big enough.
Master bathroom
And a bath tub that will probably never get used. I am so not a bath person hahaha.
My office
Unlike the office I had in my old house, I actually sit in here and work. I do everything off my laptop, so 9 times out of 10 I would sit on the couch and work on the laptop, but lately I have actually been working from my desk. This room has all my crafty stuff in it too (plus pictures my nieces draw for me)!
And then my police picture wall….
Downstairs bathroom
Can I just say that I love having a house with three bathrooms, when there are three people living here? My old house had one tiny bathroom. Fine for one person, but with three people, the struggle was real.
Loft
Upstairs there is a loft area that is decorated with all of James’ fire stuff and red, white and blue. Ethan has the entire second story for himself and he likes to sit on the couch up here and read.
Ethan’s bedroom
Ethan got all of James’ bedroom furniture since we used mine in the master. This is the biggest of the extra bedrooms, so Ethan has a television and desk area in here as well. I am still working on his picture wall…it’s a mixture of baseball stuff and bears. Rawwwrrrrr…..
Ethan’s bathroom
I still think this picture was the best find ever. Hobby Lobby on clearance for like $14!!!
Spare bedroom
This is the bed from the extra bedroom at my old house and I have my childhood dresser up here. Perfect for guests! I can’t wait until my nieces are old enough for sleepovers…this room will be for them!
Creating a Safe and Serene Haven with Fencing and Netting
In turning a new house into a home, outdoor spaces play a significant role. Integrating thoughtfully designed fencing and netting solutions can transform your yard into a secure and tranquil retreat. Whether it’s about giving your pets a safe area to roam or enjoying a bug-free evening on your patio, these additions offer functionality with flair. Carefully chosen fencing provides privacy and aesthetics while netting keeps unwanted insects at bay.
As you embark on your new home adventure, consider how fencing and netting can contribute to your outdoor haven’s beauty and practicality.
We love our new house. Still so much to do as we get ready to landscape our super small backyard. And when I say “we” I mean the people I am going to hire to do it. Because I have two brown thumbs and no idea on what I want in the backyard. Except I know I want drought tolerant plants and fake grass that doesn’t look fake. I will do a fun post on the before and after of the backyard landscaping to share with you guys too!
XOXO,
Kelly

July 25, 2018 at 8:19 AMYay!! I hope you show pictures of the before and after. I love old house and the restorations! My parents house was built back in the 1800’s and they just stripped the outside down back to it’s farmhouse facade. Love all the character in older homes 🙂
