Muddy Buddies

Muddy Buddies….Puppy Chow.  Whatever you want to call this yummy snack is fine by me!  Muddy Buddies are Rice Chex cereal, coated in butter, peanut butter, melted chocolate chips and tossed in a substantial layer of powdered sugar. Make sure you use the largest bowl you have in your kitchen to pour the box of Rice Chex into.  You need some room in the bowl to stir in all the yumminess to coat the Rice Chex evenly.

Muddy Buddies

Serves: 20-30 Cooking Time: 0-minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 (12-ounce) box original Rice Chex cereal
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup of M&M’s, pretzels or nuts
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3-1/2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

1

In an extra large bowl, empty the entire box of Rice Chex. Set aside.

2

In a microwave safe bowl, add the butter, peanut butter and chocolate chips. Microwave in 20-second increments, stopping to stir the mixture each time. Microwave until all the ingredients have fully melted together (approximately 90-120 seconds). Remove the bowl from the microwave and stir in the vanilla extract into the peanut butter-chocolate mixture.

3

Pour the melted chocolate mixture over the Rice Chex, stirring the mixture gently as you pour, to ensure the chocolate-peanut butter coats all the pieces of Rice Chex. Continue this method until you have poured the entire chocolate-peanut butter mixture over the cereal. Add your desired add-in’s.

4

Sprinkle one cup of powdered sugar over the chocolate coated cereal, stirring to coat the cereal. Continue adding the powder sugar, one cup at a time, to the coated cereal, stirring to ensure the cereal is coated in a heavy amount of powdered sugar.

5

Let Muddy Buddies cool completely before storing.

Notes

Store Muddy Buddies in an airtight container at room temperature (I use two large Ziplock bags).

I didn’t know you could buy muddy buddies. Why would anyone buy them when you can make your own? Craziness! Granola is one of my favorite things in life so you’re speaking my love language here, Kelly :). Hope you’re having a fantastic week!

That is too funny. We had muddy buddies at my family reunion over the weekend and I was thinking that I needed to do a post with muddy buddies. Yours does have the added twist of the granola – I’ll have to try that! Thank you for sharing.
