Two kinds of Chex cereal, marshmallows, white chocolate, pretzel pieces, mini Nilla wafers, almonds, M&M’s and maple extract for the perfect sweet maple flavor! These cereal treats are full of so many different flavors, from the salty pretzels and almonds, to the sweet marshmallows, Nilla Wafers and M&M’s. And there’s maple extract in these treats too, because I made them for Buddy the Elf! And he loves maple in EVERYTHING!!
Disclosure: I received complimentary products from General Mills that were used in this post. All thoughts, opinions, recipes and photos are mine.
Sooooo lets talk Christmas movies for a sec. What’s your favorite movie?? Mine is a tie between Elf and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation!! Oh and Home Alone. Gosh…please don’t make me choose!! Elf has so many great one-liners and whenever I see spaghetti, I always think of Buddy pouring maple syrup all over his spaghetti. So. Dang. Funny!
So to make some treats that would be “Buddy Approved” I took a spin off a recipe from Chex called “Buddy the Elf Sweet Maple Chex Mix.” I wanted to include the same flavors and ingredients, but turn their recipe into a marshmallow treat! Because you know me and my love of cereal treats!!
Maple Marshmallow Chex Treats
Print RecipeIngredients
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 (16-ounce) bag mini marshmallows
- 1/3 cup white chocolate chips
- 2 teaspoons maple extract
- 3 cups Corn Chex (or Rice Chex)
- 2 cups Cinnamon Chex
- 1 cup mini pretzels, broken into pieces
- 1-1/2 cup mini Nilla Wafers
- 1 cup roasted and salted almonds
- 1 (10-ounce) bag M&M's
Instructions
Line a 9x13-inch pan with foil and spray the bottom and sides with baking spray. Set aside. In a large pot on the stove top, over medium heat, melt the butter. Once the butter has melted, add the entire bag of mini marshmallows. Stir the mixture occasionally as the marshmallows melt. When marshmallows are completed melted, stir in the white chocolate chips and stir constantly until the chips are mostly melted. Remove the pot from the stove.
Stir in the maple extract. Stir in the Chex cereal, one cup at a time. Fold in the pretzels, Nilla Wafers, almonds and M&M's. Once mixture is thoroughly combined, pour out into prepared pan. Let treats set in the pan for 2-3 hours, or until set. Cut into desired sized squares.
Notes
Store treats in an air tight container at room temperature. Treats stay fresh for 1 week.
I think you could also call these marshmallow treats “Christmas everything-but-the-kitchen-sink Cereal Treats” since there seems to be just about everything in these cereal treats! So go ahead and make a batch of these and watch Elf while you devour one (or two or three or more) of these treats!
XOXO,
Kelly
