Homemade Vanilla Marshmallow Fondant

Homemade, vanilla marshmallow fondant, made easily in the microwave, using just one bowl and requiring only ten minutes of total work time!  I know the taste of fondant is a love/hate kind of thing.  I get it.  That’s why making this homemade fondant may change the minds of those fondant haters out there!

Homemade fondant came about because my stepson Ethan LOVES fondant.  I normally buy packages of fondant at my local cake supply store when I need it for decorating cakes and cupcakes.  Ethan is always hanging around looking for “extra pieces” while I am making my fondant decorations.  Ethan then told me I should come up with a dessert that was made completely out of fondant.  Well that would just be a huge ball of fondant hahaha.

So I decided instead to try my hand at homemade fondant.  And I was surprised at how easy this fondant was to make!  And so much yummier!  What’s not good about melted marshmallows, vanilla almond bark and powdered sugar all mixed together?!

Homemade Vanilla Marshmallow Fondant

Print Recipe
Serves: 10 Cooking Time: 0-minutes

Ingredients

  • 3-1/2 cups mini marshmallows
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (I used Rodelle Baker's Extract)
  • 2/3 cup vanilla almond bark, chopped
  • 3-1/2 to 5 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

1

In a large microwave safe bowl, add the marshmallows and water. Microwave for approximately 60-90 seconds, stopping every 20-seconds to stir. Once marshmallows have completely melted, remove the bowl from the microwave and immediately stir in the vanilla extract and vanilla almond bark. Once the almond bark has completely melted, stir in the powdered sugar slowly.

2

Once the mixture gets too difficult to stir, start using your hands to knead in the powdered sugar. Add sugar until you reach your desired consistency (you do not want it too wet or too dry).

Notes

Store fondant in an airtight container at room temperature.

What to do with your fondant now that it’s made?  Use it to decorate cakes, cupcakes, cookies etc.

I used this fondant to make Fortnite V-Bucks to top Hot Cocoa Cookies that I gave away in goodie bags at Ethan’s birthday party.  They were a hit.  The boys LOVED them!!

The boys also just ate chunks of this fondant…it’s that good!!  So I rolled little balls of fondant in Carousel Sprinkles from India Tree for a fun treat!

SO TELL ME….

  • What do you think about fondant??

  • What do you use fondant for?

I love that Ethan loves fondant so much! I’ve only ever made fondant with a sugar syrup base and it was a pain so I’ll have to try your recipe; it looks much more enjoyable to make!

I never knew that fondant could be made at home. I’m huge fan of decorating with fondant but hate the taste. So, this homemade fondant is the answer, looks so soft and smooth.
