Healthy Eating Tips for Summer

Healthy eating is the most important thing to do if you want to stay on track with your weight.  The food we put into our bodies is the most crucial part of losing weight and staying lean, and over the years, I am sure there are many different tips you have heard about what you can do.  Today I am sharing a few basic tips on staying lean and eating healthy.

Making an appointment with a nutritionist is a great way to get one-on-one specific healthy eating tips.  But in the mean time, here are a few healthy eating hacks I am sharing with you today, to help you stay lean and happy throughout your lifetime.

DON’T DRINK SUGAR

If you are trying to watch your weight and become leaner for the summer, the first thing you need to do is eliminate empty calories from liquid sugar.  Things such as sugar in your coffee, alcohol and soft drinks are incredibly high in calories and will end up spiking the levels of sugar in your blood.  This is not good for your health, and due to the high sugar content in these sugary-drinks, your body will struggle to metabolize it all, resulting into fat and unwanted weight gain.

EAT NUTS

Nuts are high in fat, but the fats they contain are the healthy ones. The beauty of nuts is that they are filling, and they have massive nutritional value. Nuts contain magnesium, fiber, vitamin E and protein. If you get hungry during the day and need a good snack, a handful of nuts can become your best friend.  Just remember to portion out a single serving!!

EAT REAL FOOD

Processed food is described as anything which has been tampered with and is no longer in its natural state. This can include many breads, cheeses, snacks and other foods.  If you want to stay healthy and maintain healthier digestion, stick to real food in its natural state.  If you get hungry during the day, instead of reaching for a bag of chips, why not grab a boiled egg or some grilled chicken?  By eating natural foods, you will be getting all those essential nutrients, without all the preservatives and other chemicals in processed foods.

DRINK COFFEE

Coffee lovers, rejoice! Nutritionists agree that coffee is actually really good for you! Coffee is high in antioxidants, which makes it a great drink to have every morning. The issue comes when you add sugar and milk or cream. If you want to reduce your calories and be a little healthier, cut down on the added milk and sugar for a few weeks and see the difference.  If you need that milk and sugar, try sugar alternatives and almond milk, for lower calorie add-in options.

EAT FISH

Fish is a food which people either love or hate, but it is one of the healthiest meals out there!  Fish can be a great way to get some extra protein without the saturated fat of red meat. If you can eat fish at least once a week, your body will get those essential fatty acids, contributing to better health overall. Even if you aren’t a fan of fish, there are plenty of fun fish recipes out there which can vary the taste and make fish into a much more special meal. Here are some tips and tricks for perfectly cooking fish. Give one of those recipes a try and get some fish into your diet this month, for a healthier body and healthier skin.

CHEERS TO HEALTHY EATING…and bathing suit season!

I love this Kelly, all so true and important. It’s so easy to eat junk and then wonder why we feel like crap I used to drink pop and juice, not realizing the sugar content..and those fancy coffee drinks! I mostly drink coffee (black) and water these days. I’m a huge bubby water fanatic, especially in the summer. I find the carbonation is what quenches my thirst just like pop drinks or gatorade. I need to eat more fish though, hated it growing up and just started trying more fish and actually enjoy it. Mostly white fish as I’ve discovered I don’t like salmon haha Thanks for this great post chika! Hope you had a wonderful weekend 😀

Great tips Kelly. Staying lean is so much more about what we eat than exercise. I see so many people working there little buts off only to scarf down EVERYTHING because they earned it. Its better to lay off the crazy workout regimen and focus on your food.

Thanks Patrick!! Yeah I see that all the time….people think because they worked out, it’s a free ticket to eat whatever they want lol. And I cringe when I see people drinking large sodas….sometimes the calories equal a small meal! Crazy!!

I love your tips and follow all of them! One of the first things I did when eating healthier was to stop drinking sugar.
