BBQ Shredded Chicken, made in the slow cooker, with five ingredients or less! I am coming at ya with a quick and easy dinner recipe that is great for busy weeknights AND for food prepping. You can throw the ingredients in the Crock Pot, head off to work and when you get home…BAM!! A homemade, healthy dinner on the table with only about 5-minutes of total work time.
Baseball season is upon us at our household, which means besides food prepping for the work week, I also have to food prep for the nights when Ethan has baseball. And this BBQ Shredded Chicken is the answer to that. This recipe is basically a home run. Hahaha #momjokes Okay, okay, okay…in all seriousness. If you like chicken and you like BBQ sauce, then you will like this easy dinner dish.
Five ingredients or less?? Yes. Because you can get away with just two ingredients if you really have to! Using the boneless, skinless chicken breasts and a good quality BBQ sauce are a must. The Worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke and BBQ seasonings are optional.
Back to the BBQ sauce…because the BBQ sauce is the dominant ingredient in this recipe, make sure you buy GOOD stuff. Spend the extra few bucks to buy an amazing BBQ sauce. It will make all the difference in the end. I used Sweet Baby Ray’s because that was what I had on hand. Next time I make this will seek out some artisan BBQ sauce to try in this recipe instead!
Ready for how easy this is to make?? Layer one cup of BBQ sauce on the bottom of the Crock Pot, lay your chicken breasts on top, season and add the other ingredients (if using), then finishing off with the remaining BBQ sauce and more seasonings.
Put the lid on and go low and slow or high and quick(ish)!
Crock Pot BBQ Shredded Chicken
Print RecipeIngredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (approximately 3-pounds)
- 2-1/2 cups BBQ sauce
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
- 1-2 tablespoons BBQ seasoning
Instructions
Spray the bottom and sides of your slow cooker pot with baking spray. Add one cup of the BBQ sauce to the bottom of the pot. Place the chicken breasts in a single layer on top of the BBQ sauce. Season the chicken with one tablespoon of seasoning. Sprinkle the Worcestershire sauce and liquid smoke over the chicken. Add the remaining 1-1/2 cups of BBQ on top of the chicken breasts, covering them completely.
Put the lid on and cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours. Chicken is done when it is tender and easily shreddedbable with a fork.
Once chicken is done, remove the breasts from the Crock Pot and place in a large bowl. Use two forks to shred the chicken. Use a large spoon to add your desired amount of BBQ sauce from the Crock Pot, over the shredded chicken.
Notes
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Stays fresh (when stored for properly) for 4-5 days.
Eat this shredded chicken on your favorite roll…add cheese, tomato, or other veggies to make the ultimate sandwich. Low carbing it?? Just eat the shredded chicken with a side of steamed veggies (broccoli, green beans, asparagus, etc). Any side would go great with this chicken…it’s so versatile!
I don’t know about you, but I am ready for warmer weather and backyard BBQ’s! This recipe satisfies that craving until we are officially in Grilling Season!!
XOXO,
Kelly
