Creating the Perfect Cooking Space

There is something totally exciting and refreshing about creating a cooking space when you are in a new home. You get to purchase a range of new cupboard items, accessories, pans and more!  You can decorate it exactly how you want to, knowing how you enjoy cooking and what item will get used the most, so you don’t have to waste time buying things that you won’t use.  But overall, it is your opportunity to create your dream kitchen.

When packing to move, make sure that you label your boxes well so that when Bekins Moving Solution unload your boxes, they know which room to put which boxes!

Mix It Up

A timeless look is more natural to achieve when you mix a range of traditional and classic items with new ones. The ‘clash’ of these styles can really lend itself to personalizing your kitchen in a refreshing way. Retro has been on trend for a long time now, and that probably won’t go away anytime soon.  Old cookbooks and jars of herbs, next to the newest Sous-vide machine, gives you everything that you could want.

Creative Storage

Hidden storage is every cooks dream.  Create secret shelves, drying drawers to dry out herbs and even cold storage.  The possibilities are endless.  The key is to keep your kitchen as functional as possible.  Built-in knife blocks and special drawers for your chopping board are all great ideas.

Functional

As mentioned above, you ideally want your kitchen to be as functional as it is beautiful. For example, using a center table as a countertop for dining as well as prep.  Consider using marble, which will last much longer than laminate and keeps its gleam for many years too. Have as much seating as you can manage, so that if people want to join you in the kitchen while you do what you love, that is an option for them.

Cozy

There are a few styles of kitchen that seem to have the edge when it comes to design. Modern, steel and almost industrial kitchen styles tend to top the charts often. Country kitchens, however, are beautiful and warm. So you should think about which one you would prefer to work in. Most often, warmer tones in kitchens feel more welcoming, and you’ll feel more relaxed while you are cooking in there.

Display

You probably have some plates that you adore, and this is the perfect place to show them off. You can use the design to add a pop of color or interest if you have otherwise stayed fairly neutral.

Look Up

If you have a high enough ceiling, you can hang a large twig or branch and use that to dry out herbs, hang pans or create something beautiful that is functional too.

Walls

You probably have some wall space that you can really make the most of. You can choose to fit shelves and use them as simple storage, or you could add magnets and use magnetic bottoms jars to store your dried herbs in. If you need extra space, a folding kitchen table is a perfect solution.

So many fun options when creating your perfect kitchen space! I loved moving into my new home and organizing and decorating my kitchen.

XOXO,

Kelly

Great tips, Kelly! I’ve always loved when kitchens have the pots and pans hanging on the wall like that. It looks so good!
